Job description
Duties may include: Operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Repair and maintain farm vehicles, implements, and mechanical equipment. Set up and operate irrigation equipment. Repair farm buildings, fences, and other structures. Worker will assist with general calving operations such as examining calves to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Help with vaccinations, marking of livestock to identify ownership and grade, using brands, tags, paint, or tattoos, and weaning of calves from cows to start their diet. Worker will be responsible for hauling manure to appropriate piles or fields, help with sorting cattle according to weight, age, color, and physical condition, loading/unloading cattle from trailers, prepare feed and mix in additives to ensure proper weight gain, check feed equipment, clean/maintain feed equipment, inspect water sources/equipment, clean/maintain/repair water system, inspect livestock for illness and injuries, separate sick livestock from the herd, move sick/injured livestock to treatment area, administer medications/injury care or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment, administer vaccinations for new cattle, confine livestock to stalls, groom livestock, castrate livestock, weigh livestock, spray livestock with insecticide, inspect pens/stables, clean/disinfect pens/stables and equipment, using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses, or pumps, remove old bedding, prepare new bedding, maintain livestock equipment, shift animals between grazing areas to ensure that they have sufficient access to food construct and repair fencing for livestock, maintain windbreaks/fencing, prepare livestock for market, prepare documentation to sell livestock. Maintain clean housing and barn areas as well entire ranch & other related Farm Worker activities as per SOC/OES 45-2092 (onetonline.org).
Possible weekend/holiday work.
Special Requirements
Must be 18 due to equipment use. Worker has 3 days from date of hire to show proof of legal authorization to work in the United States. Drug/alcohol/tobacco free work zone. Static strength; exert max muscle force to lift, push, pull, unload, carry objects up to 100lbs (possible 2-person); may climb, walk, stand, reach, balance, sit, stoop, bend, squat, wash, clean: equip, grounds, area. All applicants must be able, willing, qualified to perform work described and must be available for the entire period specified and work throughout all areas of intended employment. Based on Employer's discretion/cost: Worker may have random drug/alcohol testing during employment: positive test/refusal to abide = dismissal due to equipment use and safety protocols. Variable weather conditions may apply. Worker must be able to obtain a valid Driver's License/CDL in the State of Kansas within 2 weeks of reporting to work.
