Job description
Strawberry Applicator/Bug Vac Operator/Strawberry Installation to perform the following duties:
Operate agricultural tractors in strawberry fields to help prevent and control pest/pathogens. Operators will be responsible for driving tractors through strawberry fields in a safe and efficientmanner. Strawberry applicators will be required to be trained on working around potentially dangerous pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. Applicators will drive spray tractors throughstrawberry fields during early mornings or late evenings applying materials prescribed by our in house PCA. Operators will need to have the ability to work in wet/slippery conditions whilemoving hoses or equipment to help load or unload materials while wearing the proper PPE. Strawberry applicators will be required to pass a pulmunary fit test in order to use a mask whileapplying materials. The types of jobs will require the operators to have the ability to lift more than 25lbs and to be able to sit for long periods of time while operating the tractors. Bug Vac operatorswill primarily be responsible for operating, cleaning, and maintaining their bug vac/tractors throughout the work period. Bug vac operators are asked to run bug vacs during mid mornings andearly to late afternoons. The operators of these bug vacs will need to have the ability to sit for long periods of times and be able to focus on their surroundings will operating such equipment. Bothapplicators and bug vac operators will be ask to install plastic mulch, hoop houses, open roads, and install irrigation systems when preparing fields for planting at the end of the year.
Special Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements: 3 months of experience tractor driving in strawberry fields required. Workers must stand, sit, crouch, bend, reach, lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds in the course of performing required activities, 80 lbs with machinery. Must have use of both hands. Must be able to use hand tools, including cutting knives. Must be able to work under conditions where skin and clothing become heavily soiled with mud, water, grease, etc. Must be able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions, including rain, cold, high winds, etc. Work involves frequent bending and working in bent or stooped positions. Must be able to walk and stand up extensively. No smoking, illegal drugs, alcohol or weapons of any sort in the housing or working fields.
