Job description

Workers will be working in planting of the following crops; Tobacco, Cotton, peanuts, pecans. Work may include but not limited to perform any combination of tasks related to the planting, cultivating, harvesting and curing of tobacco. Preparing soil, planting, pruning, weeding, and thinning. Harvest tobacco, stripping the stalk of all leaves. Wraps and ties tobacco plants. Loads and unloads harvested leaves onto truck or wagons. Pick up any loose leaves into crates and lift and load crates into assigned tobacco barn to be cured. After tobacco has cured, pull crates and pack cured tobacco into bales. Pick up any loose leaves that have fallen on the ground during the packing process. Load cured tobacco bales onto the truck. Grade, Sort, or classify agricultural products by size, weight, color, and condition. Workers will manually plant, hoe, weed, irrigate, clean spray, load/unload grain bins & trucks. Workers will till soil & apply fertilizers, transplant, weed, thin, prune, cultivate, harvest field crops; apply pesticides; clean, pack & load harvested products. Conduct post-harvest clean-up. Workers may construct trellises, repair fences, farm bldgs., and other farm related activities. Perform daily maintenance and service on farm equipment and machines. Use hand tools, such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, prune hooks, shears, knives. Operate farm equip as determined by employer/supervisor if applicable. Workers may lift and carry up to 75 lbs. Work may be conducted in inclement weather conditions including extremely hot, humid, cold, and/or rainy weather. Employer provides 2 days training starting with first day of employment to new workers. Workers must adhere to all safety rules as instructed by the supervisor. Workers must take care to handle tools, equipment and crops in a manner to avoid injury or damage. The employer will comply with all federal, state, and local safety requirements. Operational specifications can change during the season due to crop or market conditions. Workers will be expected to conform to the specific instructions given for each day’s work. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by the employer or a designated employee.

Special Requirements

The employer will only conduct a drug test only if the worker (employee) is in a work-related accident. The drug testing will be at the employers expense. If the worker fails the drug test or refuses the drug testing, this will be probable cause for termination of employment.
