Job description

Duties may include: Assist with general calving/foal operations such as examining calves/foals to detect illness, injury, or disease, and to check physical characteristics, such as rate of weight gain. Provide medical treatment, such as administering medications and vaccinations, or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment. Help with vaccinations, branding of calves/foals, and weaning of calves/foals from milk to start their grain-based diet. Must also be a skilled farrier. Worker will be responsible for hauling manure to appropriate piles or fields, help with sorting livestock, loading/unloading livestock from trailers, prepare feed and mix in additives, check feed equipment, clean/maintain feed equipment, inspect water sources/equipment, clean/maintain/repair water system, inspect livestock for illness and injuries, separate sick livestock from the herd, move sick/injured livestock to treatment area, administer medications/injury care or arrange for veterinarians to provide more extensive treatment, administer vaccinations for new livestock, confine livestock to stalls, groom livestock, castrate livestock, weigh livestock, spray livestock with insecticide, inspect pens/stables, clean/disinfect pens/stables, remove old bedding, prepare new bedding, maintain livestock equipment, transport livestock to pastures, construct fencing for livestock, maintain windbreaks/fencing, prepare livestock for market, prepare documentation to sell livestock. Help with daily farming duties such as helping with irrigation, repairing gaskets and piping for irrigation, welding, removing piping from fields, spray weeds in fields, winterizing ranch, build/repair ranch structures, & other related Ranch Hand activities as per SOC/OES 45-2093 (onetonline.org).

Special Requirements

Worker is preferably able to speak, read, and write Spanish. Must be 18 due to equipment use. Worker has 3 days from date of hire to show proof of legal authorization to work in the United States. Drug/alcohol/tobacco free work zone. Static strength; exert max muscle force to lift, push, pull, unload, carry objects up to 200lbs (possible 2-person); may climb, walk, stand, reach, balance, sit, stoop, bend, squat, wash, clean: equip, grounds, area. All applicants must be able, willing, qualified to perform work described and must be available for the entire period specified. Based on Employer's discretion/cost: Possible background check post hire at employer's expense. Variable weather conditions may apply.
