Job description
Workers will harvest sugarcane, operate farm equipment and perform manual labor such as hand harvesting, shoveling and clearing trees solely for Melancon Farms on the farm and for that farmer. Workers may operate a farm truck along Louisiana HWY 347 to haul Melancon Farms’ sugarcane away from the farm to market/milling facility. Work is M-F 8am to 5 pm, with 1 hr lunch. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Work is completed in variable weather. Work requires extensive and repetitive walking, lifting, and stooping. Post hire, workers may be required to take a random drug test (at no cost to the worker), as part of fitness for duty and workers safety. Testing positive or failure to comply with the random drug testing may result in immediate termination from employment. Two-day training/orientation period. Possible work hours may vary (be more or less) due to weather conditions or mechanical breakdowns, but will not reduce the ¾ guarantee over the life of contract. Work tools, supplies and equipment provided at Melancon Farms’ expense. Housing provided at no cost for workers who cannot reasonably return to permanent domicile at end of workday.
Special Requirements
Regarding the post-hire drug test, please note that this job opportunity involves working with farm equipment, vehicles, and farm machinery. Work is completed over a range of 3000 acres in a remote environment. Worker safety objectives would make reasonable the basis for post-hire drug testing as part of fitness for duty and safety assurance in a remote work environment.
