Job description
Cabbage harvesting is done by the employee bending over all day cutting cabbage with supplied knife, to customer specifications, put into a box, and load onto a wagon. Several steps happen in this process. The box needs to be erected, filled, closed and loaded onto pallets on the wagon. Cabbage will be cut potentially three different ways. One is with a harvest aid conveyor that assists in streamlining box flow from the wagon and to the wagon. Second is where cabbage is cut with box directly in the rows, then loaded after sufficient amount is cut to fill the wagon. Third is where cabbage is cut and put on a conveyor to be loaded in bulk a container. Employee must be able to handle lifting full boxes of cabbage weighing at least 55 pounds.
Pepper harvest is done by the employee bending over all day picking peppers that are mature enough for harvest in an efficient matter that they do not damage the plant. The peppers are put into a container. When the container is full the employee will carry full container to the wagon and empty container into totes on the wagon in a gently matter as to not bruise the peppers. Return to row and repeat.
Pie pumpkin harvest is done by the employee bending over all day pulling pie pumpkins from vine in an efficient matter as to not damage the pumpkins or pumpkin stems and put into windrows. To harvest the pumpkins the employee will have to knock down vines with arms or feet to access the pumpkins. Once in windrows, the employee will load the pumpkins into totes in an efficient matter as to not damage the pumpkins or pumpkin stems.
Take care to prevent damaging produce and plants. Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 55 pounds and lifting to a height of 7 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 40 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers may be requested to submit to random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Failure to comply with the request or testing positive may result in immediate termination. Also, drug testing and background checks may occur during the interview process, and will be conducted at the sole cost and discretion of the employer. Use of personal cell phone or other personal electronic device during working hours strictly prohibited except for work-related calls or emergencies and violation may result in immediate termination.
