Job description

The Field Preparation Worker performs activities related to the preparation of strawberries and blueberry farms. This position assist with ranch maintenance such as field preparation with tractor and other farm equipment, use of level board for strawberry farms, assist with irrigation herbicide and spraying blueberries, mowing lawns and driving from site to site. The position follows company policies and standards and adheres to all safety practices and requirements. The position ensures clean work areas that are free of objects that may cause accidents.

Strawberry fields preparation:
• Use of level board
• Attach farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, or harvesters to tractors, using bolts and hand tools.
• Follow and adhere to all personal and equipment safety requirements, to include but not limited the use of personal protective equipment.
• Discing, rolling and cultivating

Blueberries :
• Spraying blueberry farms with the use of tractor sprayer.
• Irrigation of blueberry farms by turning on water pumps.
• Use of pesticides and herbicides as per supervisor instructions.
• Assist with applying fertilizers and pesticides by hand and by tractor.

Basic Farm Machinery Repairs:
• Assist with basic farm machinery repairs such as farm implements and lawn mowers.
• Adjust, repair, and service farm machinery and notify supervisor when machinery malfunctions.

Driving:
• Drive from site to site for performing the different activities.
• Driving tractors from farm to farm.
• Transporting lawn mowers and other equipment between farms.

Special Requirements

3 months of experience with farm machinery required. Cannot be color blind due to the need to distinguish colors of crops for proper ripeness and maturity, no smoking, illegal drugs, alcohol, or weapons of any sort in the housing or work fields. Ability to communicate in English or Spanish is required for training and safety purposes. Work is performed outdoors in open fields and can involve exposure to sun, wind, mud, dust, heat, cold and other elements of the normal field environment. Temperatures can range from 50 degrees F to over 90 degrees F during the period of employment. Workers should come prepared with appropriate clothing and footwear for the work and working conditions described.
