Job description

Plant, cultivate, weed, tend, stake and string cucumbers. Hand harvest cucumbers into bucket. Carry bucket to washer and dump the bucket into the washer. Wash, sort, grade and size the cucumbers into the correct containers. Stack or load the containers onto wagon or pallets.
Plant, cultivate, weed, tend and hand harvest squash, with or without a knife. Place picked squash into bucket. Carry bucket to washer and dump the bucket into the washer. Wash, sort, grade and size the squash into the correct containers. Stack or load the containers onto wagon or pallets.
Hand harvest vine ripe round tomatoes, roma tomatoes, grape tomatoes and cherry tomatoes into 5 gallon tomato harvest bucket or 20 or 25 pound tomato box.
Work a vine ripe round tomato, roma tomato, grape tomato, cherry tomato and bell pepper grading line. Make boxes, empty harvested tomatoes into sorting line. Remove poor quality, unripe or non-sellable product. Place graded tomatoes or peppers into container. Remove filled containers and place onto pallets.
Plant, cultivate, weed, tend, stake and string pepper and eggplant.
Plant, cultivate, harvest, field pack, weed, stake, string and sucker or prune tomatoes.
Use hand tools and agricultural equipment to plant, cultivate and harvest crops. Use hand tools including shovel, knife, post driver, hoe, hoe handle, clippers, screwdriver, sheering knife and chain saw. Operate and maintain agricultural equipment. Prepare fields by laying plastic mulch in fields, digging ditches for irrigation pipes and connecting drip irrigation in fields. Workers must keep up with the wagon/truck that is going down the rows during the planting and harvesting process. Clean, mow and maintain fields, including soil preparation, transplanting, thinning plants, weeding, fertilizing, spraying, insect control, plowing, cultivating and the removal of stakes, strings, irrigation pipes and plastic mulch. Stakes will be hand pulled, then sorted and strapped for transport from the fields. Strings will be hand cut and bunched. Mulch will be hand lifted. Mulch and string will be loaded onto wagons for transport from the fields.
Persons fully trained to WPS standards by Osage Farms may be loading, stacking, mixing, transferring or applying crop protections products as well as cleaning, repairing or replacing parts of the application equipment.
Workers are expected to follow supervisors' instructions. Inform farmers or farm managers of crop progress and/or any problems regarding agricultural equipment or crops.
Load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities.
Direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during planting and harvesting.
Mark and label containers, container tags, or products, using marking tools.
Workers with licenses may drive the bus or other transportation vehicles to transport workers and may be offered additional work hours. Drivers who have received Osage Farms' training may operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to plow, harrow and fertilize soil, or to plant, cultivate, spray and harvest crops. Drivers who have received Osage Farms' training may operate farm equipment to load and unload product.

Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.

Special Requirements

Three months of commercial farmwork experience required. Walk, bend, reach, kneel, stoop, and lift, carry and load up to 60 lbs repetitively. Work in adverse weather conditions including extremely hot, cold and/or wet weather. Employer is a drug free workplace. Drug testing is conducted post hire at the employer's expense and is not part of the interview process.
