Job description

Duties may vary from time to time. Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Perform manual labor. Watermelons- Workers will harvest, cut, and pick watermelons in the field. Duties also include tying, loading and unloading stakes, cleaning, loading and unloading harvested products, and pulling weeds. Grade and sort products according to factors such as color, species, length, width, appearance, feel and quality to endure correct processing and usage. Discard inferior or defective products and/or foreign matter, and place acceptable products in containers for further processing. Weigh products or estimate their weight, visually or by feel, and field pack. Place products in containers according to grade and mark grades on containers. Measure weigh and count products and materials. Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Workers must perform manual labor to pull plastic from the field and load onto a trailer. Removal of irrigation equipment. Clean and maintain work area. Use hand tools such as shovels, trowels, hoes, tampers, pruning hooks, shears, and knives. Duties may include applying fertilizers, transplanting, pulling weeds, raking, cleaning around shed area, thinning, or pruning crops, cleaning, grading, and packing harvested products. Workers will also do staking, tying, loading, removing, and unloading of stakes. Workers will also be expected to do COVID related cleaning and sanitizing in housing and vehicles. May repair fences and farm buildings and participate in irrigation activities. Duties will also include operating forklift, assisting mechanics.

Special Requirements

Workers must be 18 years or older. The employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants for employment. All tools, supplies, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the workers. All workers must clean/sanitize all equipment, and hand tools prior and after each use. Workers will also be expected to do COVID related cleaning and sanitizing in housing and vehicles. Must assist with all Good Agricultural Practices polices. Most of the workday is spent on ones feet and outdoors. Workers may stand in one place for any period of time. Workers must be able to climb, stand, sit, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, bend (from the waist), push, pull, reach and lift 10-100 lbs.
