Job description

Crops/Commodities:
Livestock and crops including but not limited to zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, green beans, winter squash, onions, peppers, sweet corn, beets, grains.
Drive semi tractor-trailer truck to/from delivery or pickup destinations within a 150 mile radius of the farm. Regularly climb into and out of trucks and trailers. Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure. Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers. Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy. Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions. Load-unload trailers and cargo. Handle equipment and cargo carefully to prevent damage. Drive trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes in compliance with state regulations. Interact with roadway officials. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection and paperwork on trucks and trailers. Perform preventative maintenance. Must be able to drive in rain, snow, and other hazardous conditions as needed. Drive in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions. May drive other vehicle types. Use GPS and/or maps to navigate to destinations. Read/comprehend traffic signage and directions. Load/unload product. Prepare orders for shipping. Keep material and product records accurately.

Feed and water livestock. Herd livestock to pasture for grazing. Herd animals into corral and/or stall. Maintain/repair fences used to contain herd animals. Must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas. Examine animals for diseases and injuries. Assist with livestock vaccination. Apply routine medications. Tend to cuts and bruises. Assist with livestock castration. Clips, brand, or tag animals. Perform general herd care.

Mow and cut grass. Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs. Repair fences.

Use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, planters, mowers, plows, utility vehicles, cultivators, fork lifts, pallet jacks, skid loaders. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Assist in fall grain harvesting and tillage.

Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination.

Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision.

Employer-paid post-hire drug testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use.

Workers with an insurable driver's license may be asked to drive other workers between worksites, housing locations, and town once a week with the vehicles disclosed under the daily transportation section of this job order.
Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer. All workers will be subject to a trial period of up to five days during which the employer will evaluate workers' performance of required tasks.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 6 months of agricultural experience handling both manual and mechanized tasks, including driving/servicing tractor unit and semi-trailer. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Saturday work required. Sunday work may be offered but is not required. Employer-paid post-hire drug testing required. Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs.
