Job description
Crops: Beets and carrots.
Job requires operating sizing/grading system for beet harvest; driving trucks to haul product to storage area; operating fork trucks; having mechanical skills to repair, maintain, and service equipment; operate various farm equipment to plant and harvest vegetables; remove snow when necessary; sort and pack product; wash and grading line operation; neatly and accurately recording bins and truckloads of product; organization of tracking product inventory; organizing finished product within the cooler; and finish product inventory management. Job may require the use of telehandler or skid steer with bucket and fork attachments to move produce bins and/or move bulk materials. Employees also must have working knowledge and experience with welding, electrical, basic mechanic skills. Equipment that employees will operate includes but is not limited to forklift, telehandler, skid steer, bin rotator, sorting table, lift roller, drum style produce washer, roll topper, de-stoner, product conveyer, product elevator, air compressor, nail guns, electric and gas powered pressure washer, powered diaphragm pump, and power tools (saws, drills, grinder, impact drivers, etc.). Workers will be required to perform manual duties including but not limited to the use hand tools in the fields; grease the machines used for intake from the fields; pressure washing equipment; use high pressure air to blow dirt, weeds, mud, and other matter from parts of the intake machine; climbing up and down ladders; and lift chains, tools, empty pallets, and other items as needed; shoveling; sweeping; washing equipment; packing line; pressure washing; wooden crate repair; working on foot; and wash line equipment maintenance. Employees are required to have functional knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and experience with and proficiency in the use of Excel and Word. The use of Word and Excel is used for logging data that is related to the intake of crops and is used for allocating bin weights and truck weights with box numbers and field codes in order to maintain an inventory, but also to maintain product traceability. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often, and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. Pay increase or bonus may be possible to employees depending on experience or merit and are at the sole discretion of the employer.
Special Requirements
Other job requirements are having basic English literacy and math skills and having, or being able to obtain, a drivers license. Job will require workers to be outdoors while working. Many job duties will be performed on foot. Summer temperatures can be 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher and fall/winter temperatures can get below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Working in the fields with hand tools will require pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, lifting up to 100 lbs, and performing repetitive movements.
