Job description
Monitor irrigation of trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals and preform regular maintenance and repairs as needed. Determine irrigation requirements for individual plant needs. Install new irrigation lines as needed. Manage water use of the garden center to ensure water efficiency. Winterize irrigation lines: drain and blow out lines, system shut down, and protecting valves and backflow preventers. Evaluate soil nutrition and make proper adjustments according to plant needs. Observe and treat nursery stock (trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals) as needed for pests and diseases. Repair and maintain equipment and machinery when not in use. Winterize plants including pruning, protecting from freezing temperatures, and apply herbicide. Winterize greenhouses and hoop houses. Inspect for any damage or leaks and make repairs as necessary. Oversee stock of fittings and parts needed for irrigation. Become familiar with irrigation controller operation and programming. Review data from moisture probes. Oversee irrigation fabrication which includes prebuilding assemblies. Learn our processes and systems. Become familiar with irrigation CAD drawings and filter layouts.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Employer requires drug screen post hire at employers expense due to the liability of operating equipment. Employer requires criminal background check post-hire at employers' expense due to the presence of children on the farm and expensive tools and equipment. Failure to pass drug screen and/or criminal background check will result in termination of employment. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Extensive pushing and pulling is required. Extensive sitting is required. Extensive walking is required. Frequent stooping is required. Repetitive movements is required. Overtime and taking holiday is mandatory. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
