Job description

Worker will conduct quality control inspections to crew members in the farm laborer/hand harvester position. Workers will be assigned to harvest team members during harvest season.
Worker must be familiar with Employer food safety policies, and work rules for farm laborer/hand harvester position. Worker must identify and report any violations of employment policies to worker supervisor.
Worker will be required to report any farm laborer/hand harvester worker absences or separations from employment to worker supervisor immediately.
Worker will assist with weekly housing inspections.
Worker will use radios to communicate with other quality control inspectors, supervisors and farm management. Worker will be required to return radios to office at the end of the day, and properly place radios on charger.
Employer will require worker to drive in Employer-provided vehicles to and from the worksite and to locations within 30 miles as directed. Worker must understand and agree to driving rules, as outlined in work rules below, and must provide proof of no infractions from official source. Worker may be required to operate farm vehicles to move between orchards and blocks.
Worker will be responsible for providing harvest team members with necessary water supply, work tools including ladders and picking bags. Employer will inform worker of daily picking standards, including color, size and grade, and worker will be responsible for communicating standards to harvest team members. Quality control inspection requires extensive walking throughout the day and frequent stooping/bending. Worker will be required to move ladders and portable toilets between blocks and locations.
Worker will be required to consistently check apple boxes throughout the day to verify compliance with quality standards. Worker must be able to identify any bruising or other damage, and check produce size and color.
Worker will be required to scan and tag apple boxes throughout the day. Scanning and tagging is the process of tracking produce and harvest productivity during apple harvest. Worker will be required to accurately enter company and harvester information, price, variety and block codes in handheld scanner. Once box is full, worker will scan harvester barcodes or manually enter harvester information and print corresponding tags. Tags must then be attached to corner of apple box using a staple hammer or as otherwise instructed. Worker may be required to give copy of tag to harvest worker. Worker must ensure all boxes have been tagged prior to leaving orchard for the day. At the end of the day, worker may be required to connect scanner to computer to drop data into computer system. Worker will be required to properly store scanning equipment in office and collect tickets from workers, as directed by manager. Worker may be required to manually enter data and check data in computer to ensure accuracy.
Worker may be required to assist harvesters in the completion of apple and cherry harvest.
Pay will be hourly.

Special Requirements

2 verifiable months quality control experience in commercial agriculture in fruit or vegetable fields. Applicants must furnish job references from recent employers (within past 5 years) establishing acceptable prior experience. Applicants must possess ability to use and understand basic handheld electronic devices. Basic verbal and written comprehension in English and Spanish required
