Job description
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Workers may be asked to operate vehicles; farm equipment; all tractors (in the field); implements on farm including but not limited to: disk, dual, do-all, chisel plow, bush hog, hipper, water trailer to water plants, and any other equipment related to the planting and harvesting of crops. Workers will use the following tools and equipment: shovel, chainsaw, hammer, four-wheeler, tractor, high clearance sprayer, forklift, skid steer, combine, cotton picker and digger. Workers may repair, maintain, and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Other job duties may include clearing ground of rocks, sticks & roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chain saw, field and fence maintenance, build and repair boxes for digger with wood, preparing the ground for planting, manually weeding fields by hand, or using hand tools, drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed, move hay, load and unload boxes on trucks and trailers, workers may be asked to do welding and torch work when needed. Sweet potatoes –Use and riding of mechanical digging equipment to dig potatoes. May harvest sweet potatoes by hand with use of bucket. May be asked to drive tractor while pulling digger. Must be able to sort, grade, & pack potatoes by size, quality, or type. Load & unload boxes on trucks, trailers, and sweet potato harvesters. Use wood to build & repair boxes for digger with the use of nail guns/hammers. Repair, maintain, & clean all hand tools & mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may also harvest soybeans, peas, cotton, and corn. Workers must be able to work with minimum supervision.
Special Requirements
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Applicants must be 18 years or older. Employer may conduct a criminal background check on all new applicants for employment. Job requires 3 months experience in operating tractors, machinery, farm implements such as disk, do all, water wagon, and bush hog, use of mechanical transplanter, mechanical diggers, and sorting/grading sweet potatoes. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery and vehicles will be left up to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery and vehicles must be able to communicate with employer and adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show a proficiency to effectively communicate with management and may therefore place other employees safety at risk. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
