Roadside Maintenance Worker

Job description

Perform roadside landscaping work, clear brush and remove litter and debris from roadside areas. Mechanical and hand mowing of roadside vegetation including right-of-way mowing along urban and rural sections of interstate and other highway system roads. Mow on highway medians, interchange infield areas, and other roadside areas; mow around signs, guardrails, delineators, mailboxes, bridges, and intersections. Mechanical mowing includes tractor mowing with sickle bars, rotary mowers, flail mowers, zero-turn mowers and guardrail mowers. Use hand mower and line trimmer. Place signs and cones around work areas for traffic control. Service equipment; grease, sharpen blades, etc. May drive trucks to transport crews and equipment to work sites.

Minimum 35 hours per week, up to possible 48 hours per week. Work schedule may vary, normal 6-day schedule Monday - Saturday from 7:00am – 3:30pm, 30-minute unpaid break. Work days and shift time may vary with weather. Overtime required as necessary.

Basic wage rate: $19.02 per hour. Employer may increase wage based on experience, market conditions, and/or provide additional pay for performance and tenure. An overtime premium will be paid when required by Federal, State, or local law, including at time-and-a-half after 40 hours in a workweek. Generally, when overtime is available it will be paid at $28.53 per hour.

A single workweek will be used in computing wages due. Workers will be paid weekly.

The employer will provide on-the-job training.

The employer will provide daily transportation from their worksite in Pamplin to and from multiple worksite locations in Prince Edward, Charlotte, Mecklenburg, Dinwiddie and Nottoway Counties, Virginia.

The employer will provide worker at no charge all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform job.

Special Requirements

No minimum education or experience required.
Must have or be willing/able to obtain a driver's license.
Must be familiar with tractor mowing equipment.
Must be able to work a 6-day schedule, may include weekends and holidays.
