Job description

Perform any combination of the following tasks required to tend livestock and the ranch during the hot summer months: administer medication as needed; assist with preg testing cows and heifers; assist with sorting and cutting of culls; repair and/or maintain fence and facilities to ensure the safety and health of animals and forage; cut and clear noxious trees and shrubs that harm grass and plant species in grazing areas; deliver feed and supplements to livestock and operate the appropriate equipment required to ensure adequate provision of both; deliver water to livestock through hot summer months using large water trucks; evaluate and adjust feed rations for livestock according to body condition and season of production; identify and administer appropriate medication for various health issues such as internal parasites, respiratory issues, injuries, etc.; inspect and clean livestock waterers; maintain/clean and fill water troughs and buckets; make certain animals have access to fresh water; monitor and treat livestock for internal and external parasites; operate and tend equipment such as pickups, 4-wheelers, tractors, tub grinders and skid steers trailers (livestock, utility and flatbed)

Special Requirements

Required to: perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision, to operate equipment and machinery required to perform job duties indicated in a safe and responsible manner, work outdoors in all types of weather and may experience occasional exposure to hazards such as poisonous snakes, biting insects and extreme temperature, work with and around farm machinery such as tractors, UTVs and ATVs for supplemental feeding purposes and movement of livestock, demonstrate commonsense and awareness of safe equine handling procedures, i.e. no running in barns, shouting, abusing animals, leaving gates/stall doors/feed rooms open or smoking in and around barns, sheds or hay storage, Spray pastures and/or fence lines for poisonous plants and/or noxious weeds with herbicides to prevent livestock from consuming them, to ride, handle and tend horses in a manner to assure the safety and health of the worker, co-workers, horses, dogs and livestock.
