Job description
DURLING NURSERY, INC. – 49-3041 -Farm Equipment Mechanic Agriculture Equipment. This falls under the FLSA definition of secondary agriculture since the job duties are incidental and in conjunction with Durling Nursery, Inc. farming nursery operations. The below essential duties are all performed at Durling Nursery, Inc. growing grounds for the purpose of maintaining and repairing farm machinery and automotive and delivery vehicles used in the essential nursery operation. Essential duties for Mechanic: Work on Agricultural Equipment like tractors, motors, trailers and other equipment used in agriculture operation. Duties will include servicing of farm equipment, forklifts, tractors, trailers, vehicles or any mechanical device or equipment used in agriculture. (Diesel and gasoline engines are included.) Duties of mechanic will regularly expose workers to moving mechanical parts. Ability to handle various tools, including e.g. wrenches, pliers, drills and heavy equipment. Perform assigned tasks/repairs. Perform routine maintenance work, services and repairs on farm machinery and automotive vehicles (replace fluids, lubricating parts, replace parts, etc.) for vehicle functionality and longevity. Inspect machines for faulty parts, wear, damage, leaks or specific problems that could affect performance and safety. Analyze and diagnose mechanical issues needed for repair. Dissemble and reassemble mechanical components and make repairs. Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic components of vehicle. Familiarity with government regulations, legal issues, safety protocols and procedures. Ability to read numbers and names differentiate between parts, sizes and types of fluids. Input, track and maintain all maintenance data and records. Schedule future maintenance sessions and keep detailed records on repairs and maintenance performed. Report to shop, or designated meeting location, to review daily tasks with supervisor. Worker must possess the ability to regularly climb up and down, on, into and out of tractor and trailers; assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles; clean soiled lights, windows and mirrors, add lubricant, oil and engine fuel as needed. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking, bending and lifting. Employer assures it will provide gloves, any tools needed and training in prevention of work-related injuries at no cost to workers. Supervisors will provide instructions and directions to workers. Willingness to observe all safety precautions for protections against accidents, dangerous fluids, chemicals, etc. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers must operate equipment in a manner that protects operator, other workers, products, and equipment. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or trail type shoes. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination. Employer-paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises during work hours is prohibited and will be cause for termination. Tobacco use strictly prohibited on company property except for specifically designated areas. This job requires a minimum of 3 months of prior experience working with equipment, gas or diesel engines.
Special Requirements
This job requires a minimum of three months of prior mechanical
or agricultural mechanic experience handling both manual and machine tasks. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Workers must be able to perform manual and mechanized tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use.
