Job description
Workers may chop out the weeds between the rows of tobacco. Workers will cut, spike and haul in the tobacco from the fields, using metal spikes and tobacco knives ( thats provided to workers, at no charge) They will place 5 to 6 plants onto wooden sticks, and after a couple of days of "drying out" will haul the sticks to the barn to hang onto tearpoles. Stripping involves, removing the dried leaves from the stalks, and seperating them by looks, and colors, and placing them into 3 grading piles for baling. Baling process consists of placing the leave into large baling machines, that compresses the leaves into 5 to 6 hundred pound bales, that are tagged and labeled for selling. The workers will/may do various farm related jobs such as fencing, barn clean ups or repairs, weed eating, mowing, working or feeding cattle,etc, in between the tobacco processes. Lifting 50 to 60 pounds, climbing, walking, bending, and repeat movements are ALL requirements of farm laborers.
Special Requirements
Workers will be trained on each process of tobacco harvesting, so that they are familiar with equipment, that is provided, and that they understand each process.
