Job description
Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Clearing ground of rocks, sticks, and roots by hand, clear brush and trees with chainsaw, and general field and fence maintenance. Manually weeding fields by hand or using hand tools. Drain water from fields with hand tools and shovel when needed or do welding and torch work when needed. Maintain and clean all hand tools and mechanical equipment prior to and after use. Workers may be asked to operate, repair, and clean the following hand tools and equipment: vehicles, tractors (in the field); sweet potato harvester, backhoe, plant trailer/truck, implements on farm including but not limited to: disk, dual, do-all, chisel plow, bush hog, hipper, litter spreader, fertilizer and grain buggies, water trailer to water plants, and any other equipment related to the harvesting of crops. Workers may drive 18-wheeler (tandem axel flatbed trailer) hauling potatoes from fields to potato warehouse and soybeans and corn from field to storage facilities. Workers may also operate skid steer and forklift to load and unload potato boxes. May haul water wagon and seed tender trailer to and from fields with service truck. Sweet Potatoes: May clean potato warehouse/storage building/shop. May also plant, maintain, and harvest the following crops: corn and soybeans. May drive bus or truck to transport the workers to and from worksites and grocery store.
Special Requirements
Applicants must be 18 years or older. Three (3) months experience required in operating tractors, machinery, farm implements such as disk, do all, water wagon, bush hog, and experience with 18-wheeler hauling. Valid drivers license is required if asked to drive vehicles. Safety training for use of farm equipment & tractors will be provided. The ability of an employee to safely operate machinery will be left to the discretion of management. To ensure the safety of all employees, those interested in operating machinery must be able to communicate with & adequately follow instructions given by management. Management reserves the right to restrict employees from operational duties who do not show proficiency to effectively communicate with management & may therefore place other employees safety at risk. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Employer may conduct a Background Check on all new applicants at the owners expense.
