Job description

Gross Vehicle Weight is over 26,000 pounds. The by-product that the drivers will haul is field pea-fiber which is the fiber that remains after the protein is extracted from the pea. It is solid and it is carried in a side-dump semi-truck. The drivers’ semi-trucks will be loaded over the course of about four hours in a loading bay at a warehouse where the fiber is slowly dropped into the side-dump semi-truck from spouts above the trailer. The drivers will then haul the product to a farmer who will use the fiber as feed for livestock on a farm. The drivers will drive up to a feed loading pad and the trailer will dump to the side onto the loading platform. The drivers record their weight at the beginning and end of the haul. The drivers also record the farmers name at the end of the haul. Every two weeks the drivers will wash and clean the truck. The main tenets of the safety policy are that the drivers must wear a high-visibility vest (provided by the employer), hard-hat(provided by the employer), steel-toe boots(provided by the employer), safety glasses(provided by the employer) when outside of the truck at the fiber plant or at the farmers’ farms. The drivers must also consent to post-hire random drug and alcohol testing. The drivers must be able to speak and/or operate a simple language translation application on a cell phone in order to clearly communicate and/or understand directions and instructions in dealing with the employer’s staff. Finally, the worker must have a Class A Commercial Drivers License or an International Commercial Driver’s License.
