Plant workers will gently place oysters on conveyor belts for oysters to move from washers, graders, shuckers, and packagers within the plant; Plant workers will wash the oysters removing any debris or mud from the oysters; plant graders will sort and grade oysters based on size and quality using a series of screens with different-size holes to separate the oysters by size; plant workers will use shuckers to open the oysters and remove the meat from the shells using manual knives; upon completion, the processing of oysters plant workers in packaging department will pack oysters in containers or boxes filled with ice, then seal them for shipment or pickup. Oyster plant workers will wear personal protective equipment such as gloves, aprons, and safety glasses, to protect themselves from cuts and other hazards

DUTIES: Workers will clean and prepare workstations; assist with placing large quantities of incoming live oysters gently onto shaking tables; separate the live oysters according to their size (must be 3' in size for consumption) and color of the shell for acceptable processing; wash oysters, clean, pack, weigh, label, and place processed oysters into ice boxes or in ice barrels at cold temperature keep them alive if oyster remained in its shells or fresh if the body was removed from the shell awaiting freezer trucks to pick up the processed oysters to be delivered to its designated consumer, who offer fresh oysters at an establishment for human consumption or to wholesalers who resell the oysters to commercial businesses and manufacturer’s in large quantities for manufacturing purposes for products used for human, and animal consumption.

Special Requirements

Must have 3 months of work-related experience; able to stand long periods to perform work duties; work in a cold and wet environment;

Works will work on a rotating schedule;
Monday to Friday 7 hrs. (6:00 AM to 2:00 PM or 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM or 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM); and Saturday 5hrs (6:00 AM to 11:00 AM or 11:00 AM to 04:00 PM or 4:00 PM to 9:00 AM or 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM or 2:00 AM to 7:00 AM
