Job description
Performs any of the following tasks to attend to cattle on farm in a feedlot setting. Assist in unloading calves from the truck. Administer vaccinations, boosters and de-wormer topically, orally or via syringe or hypodermic needle while calf is in the chute. Apply insecticides. Brand animals to identify ownership; band to remove testes. Assist in feeding twice daily through the use of a computerized scale and feed wagon pulled behind a tractor. Load feed wagon using mechanized feed system and pay loader. Haul feed to feedlot. Assist with delivery of offspring. Assist with breeding and embryo transfer. Monitor calves for disease and injury. Separate sick calves from pen and administer treatment. Maintain processing and treatment records. Weigh and load cattle. Clean/maintain feedlot, buildings, equipment and water systems. Thoroughly clean pens using a pull-behind box scraper and pay loader. Remove snow. Monitor/repair water system to ensure water is flowing efficiently and not frozen. General seasonal cattle related farm duties.
Special Requirements
Minimum of 6 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Employer requires drug screen post hire at employers expense due to the liability of working with chemicals. Employer requires criminal background check post-hire at employers' expense due to the presence of children on the farm and expensive tools and equipment. Failure to pass drug screen and/or criminal background check will result in termination of employment. Lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
