Job description
General: Planting sugarcane by hand while working in groups and walking within an outdoor field behind a moving wagon.
Overview: To plant sugarcane, workers will reach and pull to remove pre-cut sugarcane stalks that measure 6-10 ft long from supply trailer and manually place and straighten predetermined numbers of sugarcane stalks into an open furrow at specific intervals/overlaps while bending and stooping. Machetes will be utilized to chop stalks into approximately 24-36 inches lengths.
Other Duties: Pick up dropped cane in fields. Use power equipment included but not limited to tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, forklifts, skid loaders. Must operate agricultural equipment safely, with or without direction. Workers must assist with Good Agricultural practices policies.
Special Requirements
Workers must exercise caution when handling sugarcane to avoid fire ant bites. The job duties performed will require prolonged walking, stooping, bending, reaching, pulling, chopping, kneeling, lifting, and carrying up to 75 lbs. Physical stamina required. Work in inclement weather included extreme heat, high humidity, and light rain.
