Job description
The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at construction sites. The worker may operate hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, circular saws, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed. Spread and smooth gravel using a rake. Cut and remove asphalt using a circular saw. Workers will control traffic near, in, or around work zones by setting up traffic control devices such as cones, drums, and signs. Workers will clean and prepare sites, dig and fill ditches and trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble, debris, and other waste materials. The worker may assist other craft workers. Workers may be required to work flexible shifts with earlier start or later end times. Workers will be expected to work within the Southwest Maine nonmetropolitan area.
