Job description
Perform labor to machine plant tree seedlings and apply insecticides using equipment to reforest and maintain timberlands. Check equipment to ensure that it is operating properly. Confer with other workers to discuss issues such as safety, cutting heights, or work needs. Operate bulldozers to pull a variety of scarification or site preparation equipment over areas to be regenerated. Fill sprayer tanks with water and chemicals, according to formulas. Mix pesticides, fungicides, for application to trees, shrubs, or botanical crops. Perform reforestation or forest renewal, including nursery and silviculture operations, site preparation, seeding and tree planting programs, cone collection, and tree improvement. Sort tree seedlings, discarding substandard seedlings, according to standard charts or verbal instructions. Workers who apply for and obtain, or currently hold a FLC or FLCE certificate of registration with driving authorized by the USDOL Wage and Hour Division during the employment period may transport workers, count and check, and may be offered additional work hours. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure.
Special Requirements
No education or experience required. Requires physical stamina. Work is in adverse weather. Must lift and carry 50 lbs. Extensive walking over rough terrain. Work schedule and locations dependent on weather conditions.
