Job description

We are a citrus and cow/calf operation. We need seasonal employees to do various manual tasks related to citrus trees and production as well as assist with our calving operation. Our citrus season runs from August until June. Our calving season starts in October and ends in February. Our citrus harvest starting in August when we prepare for fall citrus harvest. During the months of August and September we get equipment ready and prepare the orchard for harvest. In November we start harvesting our citrus/oranges. In the winter we need to prune and train trees to get them ready for the next season. These citrus tasks will include but are not limited to pruning dwarf citrus trees with air operated and manual hand tools, assisting in brush removal, assisting in the planting of citrus trees and support systems, training of trees, installation, and maintenance of irrigation systems. Applicant must be able to operate pruning tools and a chain saw in a safe manner. Employees will need to do various citrus tree tasks, such as tree training by attaching the tree to posts, tying down branches with string and or thinning citrus from the trees. We do not work with citrus trees from mid-June until mid-August since trees are in their growing season and working with them will disturb the growing crop. No help is needed during this time. We confine our cattle for calving in October. While cattle are confined for calving they must be fed and taken care of. Raising newborn calves and cattle. Duties will be assisting with birth deliveries, watering, castrating, weighing, catching and loading animals. Doing record keeping, administering medications, giving vaccinations or insecticides as appropriate. Doing daily duties as well as cleaning and maintaining animal housing areas. Once caving is completed in February, cows are released to grazing pasture and no further help is needed until the following calving season. Employee must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Employer may provide pay increases for performance, longevity and/or experience at employer’s discretion. Employer may provide performance bonuses at the end of the contract at the employer’s discretion.
