Job description

Performs any of the following tasks to attend to livestock: Checking temporary fences at winter grazing fields, checking electrical systems if temporary fences are "hot" or to have electrical current. Moving cattle heard from pasture to winter grazing field; depending upon how far they need to be moved it may be with stock trailers and driving or with ATV's and on ground. Fall cattle work including pregnancy checking of both cows and heifers. Feeding cattle twice daily- (hay, protein, and grain). Examining and/or inspecting herd for sickness, (vaccinating when necessary). Hauling water to livestock daily. Keeping water free of ice, (which in some extreme cold cases has to be done hourly). Preparing bedding/straw in event of likely or potential blizzards. Snow removal of feeding and drinking areas, and road/trails that lead to heard. Maintaining fences, checking daily for broken wire and electrical current. Maintaining livestock equipment, including but not limited to: Feed trucks, tractors and dozer, water truck, ATV's, bale-beds, trailers, corrals, etc. Simple welding, oil changes, greasing of moving parts is necessary. Weaning of calves in the spring. Shipping weaned calves to market by trailer. Moving cows and bulls back to pasture in the spring. Maintaining, fixing, checking pasture fence. Cleaning pens, calving barn, water tanks. Calving season begins end of March thru mid-May. Checking for new births, helping struggling cows and heifers with delivery. Ear tagging new babies with corresponding "mother's tag". Branding after all calves are born to herd. Drive to town to pick up cattle supplies.

Special Requirements

Minimum of 3 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
