Job description

Perform duties like: Bringing all the cattle home from pastures. Sort cows based on nutrient requirements. Prepping and maintaining the equipment needed to feed the cattle. Feeding the cattle (for our ranch, this takes about 6 hours day). Snow removal in the lanes so that the tractors can get to the cattle. Grinding hay to feed to the cattle. Removing net wrap from bales and managing liquid mineral, silage piles, and hay testing for rations. Creating and managing ration sheets. Hauling out all of the manure as soon as the snow melts so that the pens stay clean for sanitary purposes. Sorting all the females by projected calving dates so that we can keep the closest ones up by the barn when they are almost ready to calve. Bedding the calving barn and calving pens to keep the cattle clean, safe and warm. Checking the mother cows as they get close to calving. Getting all the cows up into the barn for calving at night. Prepping pens in the heated barn to get ready for babies. Bringing Moms and Babies into the heated barn once calved. Feeding and watering pairs that are in the heated barn. Processing all of the babies (Identification, vaccinations, EID) Recording the calving details on the calving sheets for each calf (Birth date, birth weight, parents, etc.) Moving pairs into the non-heated area of the barn to make room in the heated barn for new babies. Cleaning out and beddening the non-heated part of the barn. Moving pairs out to the pens once the babies are old enough. Beddening the pens outside. Checking health on the cattle in the calving barn and outside. Addressing health issues on the cattle in the calving barn and outside. Repair and maintenance of pens for each group of cattle. Repair and maintenance of snow fence to protect cattle from wind. Repair and maintenance of waterers. Keeping them flowing during the freezing weather. Removing snow and ice buildup to provide better footing for the cattle and easier access to feed in the bunk. Pushing snow on the ranch roads so that we can through them to get to the cattle pens to feed the cattle. Pushing snow on the roads to get to and from the ranch.

Special Requirements

Minimum of 1 months of experience is required. Must be able to obtain a driver's license within 30 days of hire. Lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds. The worker will be exposed to extreme temperatures. Repetitive movements is required. Wage rate may increase with verifiable experience. Employer may reward exceptional work with monetary or other benefits in addition to those listed here in his sole discretion.
