Job description

Workers will perform assigned duties as described in this clearance order., Drivers must have a valid CDL License required by State and Federals laws, and drivers responsible for transporting workers will be required to have a valid and unexpired Federal Farm Labor Contractor or Federal Farm Labor Contractor Employee Registration with driving authorization. Will be responsible for operating the vehicles used to move crops on the farm. Must be able to safely operate the buses that are used to transport workers to and from work sites. Operate forklifts and equipment used to move supplies and harvesting equipment in the field. Maintain harvest equipment. Must be able to reach, bend and lift items weighing up to 100 pounds. The alternative work if needed will be to assist with general farm work such as manual hand labor of Citrus crops harvesting and Grove Clean up.

Citrus Harvesting: Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Following the supervisors instructions, the worker will place a picking sack over their shoulder and carry an 18' to 20' ladder from the field truck to the particular area of the grove to be harvested. The picking sack is a canvas bag equipped with a shoulder strap for support, an opening for the insertion of fruit, and an opening to remove fruit. A fully loaded sack weighs between approximately 80 and 100 pounds, depending upon the size, condition and variety of fruit. Worker position ladder against the tree and within reach of the fruit in a leaning position, taking care not to break limbs, damage the tree, knock off fruit, or interfere with other workers, in secure position to prevent slipping or failing and possible injury to themselves or other workers. Worker will remove fruit from the tree and place into pick sack. When pick sack is full take to fruit tub located in the grove and drop fruit pick sack into tub.
General Field Caretaking and Grove Clean-up: Workers will be required to perform miscellaneous grove maintenance and clean-up work. These activities include vaccinating trees, pruning, painting trees, repairing and/or replacing irrigation equipment, removal of debris, and other general grove clean-up work as required.

Workers must be able to perform strenuous manual labor outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain, for a minimum of six (6) hours per day. The position requires physical strength and endurance to bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods, as well as manual dexterity to repetitively use hands at a sustained pace to meet production standards. The employer will provide all necessary tools and equipment at no charge to the worker. Consistent with applicable law, the employer may recover the reasonable cost of repair or replacement of tools if damage results from the worker’s willful misconduct or gross negligence after the damage has occurred and after gaining the employee's written authorization to make the deduction. At its sole discretion, the employer may pay a higher wage rate based on individual performance or tenure, which does not alter the entry-level requirements of this position.

Special Requirements

This type of work, involves working conditions that require tremendous stamina, a high level of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions in direct sunlight and in adverse weather such as rain. The work requires a high level of physical conditioning. Drivers must possess a valid U.S. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B (or Mexican equivalent Licencia Federal de Conductor Categoria A) with passenger endorsement, and a valid Federal Farm Labor Contractor (FFLC) or FFLC Employee Registration with driving authorization, as required by local, state, and federal laws and regulation
