Job description

The Livestock Ranch Worker is responsible for the daily care, management, and health of cattle in a commercial cow calf
operation. The position requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as livestock require continuous care. Work schedules may vary depending on seasonal demands, calving season, weather conditions, and emergency situations. Essential Job Duties include: Monitor cattle daily by horseback, ATV, or vehicle to observe animal health, behavior, body condition, injuries, and signs of illness or distress; Provide assistance during calving, including monitoring cows during labor, assisting with difficult births (dystocia), caring for newborn calves, ensuring calves nurse properly, and providing colostrum or hand-feeding when necessary; Strip milk from cows with engorged udders or assist calves that are unable to nurse naturally to ensure adequate nutrition and calf survival; Conduct routine herd health procedures, including administering vaccinations, antibiotics, dewormers, vitamins, and other prescribed medications under established herd health protocols; Identify sick or injured livestock, provide treatment, monitor recovery, and maintain accurate treatment records; Process cattle through working facilities for vaccinations, pregnancy diagnosis, ear tagging, branding, castration, dehorning (when applicable), weighing, and other routine management procedures; Assist with pregnancy testing and blood collection to determine breeding status and identify bred or open cows; Wean calves using established ranch management practices while monitoring animal health and minimizing stress; Rotate livestock between pastures according to the ranch’s grazing management program; Deliver hay, cubes, range cubes, supplements, and other feed using ranch equipment while monitoring feed consumption; Place, refill, and monitor mineral and nutritional supplement tubs throughout grazing pastures; Clean feed bunks, hay feeding areas, water troughs, and livestock pens to maintain proper sanitation and reduce disease risk; Inspect, repair, and maintain perimeter and interior fences, gates, corrals, cattle guards, and handling facilities to ensure livestock containment; Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on ranch vehicles and equipment, including feed trucks, trailers, tractors, ATVs, water systems, and other livestock equipment. Report mechanical issues requiring major repairs; Maintain water systems by checking troughs, pipelines, floats, valves, and pumps to ensure cattle have continuous access to clean drinking water; Load, unload, sort, and move cattle safely using low-stress livestock handling techniques; Maintain accurate records of herd health treatments, vaccinations, breeding information, calving records, death loss, feed usage, and other production data; Maintain ranch grounds and livestock facilities by cleaning working pens, removing debris, mowing or trimming vegetation around fences and facilities as needed, and assisting with general ranch maintenance; Respond to livestock emergencies at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Employees must be available to assist with emergency calving, injured or sick livestock, escaped cattle, severe weather events, and other situations
requiring immediate attention. Must speak and understand English.

Special Requirements

Two (2) months of recent and verifiable experience required for the job duties listed. Must be able to obtain appropriate drivers license following hire and obtain clean driving record. Be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Once hired, worker may be required to take a random drug test at no cost to the worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment.
