Job description
Provide personal care to a child with a cognitive and intellectual disability, including assistance with ambulation, hygiene, dressing, grooming, eating, and toileting. Perform healthcare-related tasks, such as monitoring vital signs and administering medications, under the direction of the treating physician and supervising Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Implement structured behavioral support routines as directed by the supervising BCBA to develop and reinforce daily living and self-care skills. Prepare and maintain records of the child's progress, behavioral data, and services performed, reporting changes in the child's condition to the parent or supervisor. Participate in case reviews and consult with the care team, including parents, BCBA, and medical providers, to evaluate the child's needs and plan for continuing services. Care for the child during periods of incapacitation or family disruption, providing companionship, personal care, and support in developing greater independence in daily life. Instruct and advise the child on issues such as hygiene, nutrition, and daily living skills. Plan, shop for, and prepare nutritious meals according to the child's dietary needs. Perform housekeeping duties related to the child's care, such as cleaning, washing clothes, and running errands. Transport the child to physicians' offices, therapy appointments, school, and community outings using a motor vehicle.
Special Requirements
High School/GED. Minimum 6 months experience as personal care, disability care, or a related field. Basic English skills. Use of: Kitchen and laundry equipment, household vehicle. Ability to understand and respond to the basic needs and non-verbal cues of a non-verbal child with cognitive and intellectual disabilities. Eligibility for driver's license. Must be able to lift and carry weights sufficient to complete assigned tasks. Must be able to remain active throughout the shift. 48 hours per week, 6 days per week, 8 hours per day. Schedule may vary and can include weekends and holidays as needed. Optional occasional travel possible on trips up to 10 days, twice a year, to accompany the child for holidays or therapy Employer will rely on worker's own representations and observations of the worker to assess if worker meets the physical ability and eligibility requirements stated here.
