Job description
Workers will be expected to perform duties listed on the job order for an onion and row crop farm and onion packing shed.
This is a skill level 1 position. Workers are required to have at least 2 months experience in general farm labor.
Onion Stacker: Worker will stand for long periods on hard, concrete surfaces. Will stack onion bags up to 60 pounds on pallets for shipping in an onion packing shed.
Other Duties May Include:
1. Lay hand lines for irrigation and move when required.
2. Walk fields and inspect drip irrigation for leaks.
3. Set siphon tubes and dig corrugates.
4. Start pumps for irrigation systems.
5. Operate or maintain equipment used in agricultural production and field preparation such as tractors, irrigation equipment, 4-wheelers, trucks, and other commonly used equipment in agriculture.
6. Assist in planting, weeding and harvesting crops.
7. Workers may also clear debris and garbage from fields and clean/maintain farm buildings, onion packing facility, structures, equipment, and work areas.
8. Assist with farm building/field maintenance and repairs.
9. Clean and repair irrigation ditches.
10. Onion harvest duties may include riding on harvester to remove rocks and debris, walking rows and throwing ends back, assisting with binning and sorting from harvest trucks. Assisting in movement of bins into storage.
Special Requirements
The employer agrees that it will offer, advertise in its recruitment, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR), the prevailing hourly wage rate, the prevailing piece rate, the agreed-upon collective bargaining rate, or the Federal or State minimum wage rate, in effect at the time work is performed, whichever is highest.
The employer may pay a higher hourly rate based on tenured performance, the Employer may, at its discretion, pay higher hourly rates for workers performing specialized duties or pay discretionary bonuses. These higher rates will be based on individual factors including demonstrated skill/knowledge after hire, demonstrated experience after hire, certifications, and performance, and will be offered to all qualified H-2A and corresponding U.S. workers on the same terms.
