Job description

Job requires the operation of various farm equipment to manipulate farmland during the crop’s offseason to make it level, flat, or uniform in terms of slope and elevation after the crops are out of the fields to avoid waterlogging, drought, and soil erosion. Uneven terrain can make it difficult to plant and harvest crops, increasing the risk of damage to machinery and the crops themselves during the growing and harvesting season of the crops. With land leveling, the farm can ensure that their crops have access to adequate water and nutrients, leading to higher yields, healthier plants, and an easier planting and harvesting season. After the crops have come out of the fields the employees will break the field into a fine dust then transfer soil to make the land level on the specified fields. The land is level once the pre-determined uniform degree of slopes (row-fall and side-fall) on the entire field are obtained. This allows for the uniform and efficient application of irrigation water to be achieved. Employees also use equipment to fill in areas where soil has been eroded by washed out bench berms and field roads designed to maintain the perimeters of the irrigated fields and prevent unwanted run-off. Manual duties include but are not limited to maintenance and upkeep of land leveling equipment used daily to be able to accomplish these duties. Daily hours and duties may vary depending on weather and field conditions as well as time constraints. Due to time constraints, it may be required that job duties be performed 24 hours per day and will require the employees to work on day or night shifts as determined by the employer. The employer reserves the right to increase workers’ pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.

Special Requirements

Job requires having or being able to obtain a US driver's license within 30 days of hire. Job requires workers performing duties outdoors during periods when temperatures may fall below freezing. Job duties will require periods when workers must sit or walk extensively. Random drug screening may be possible post-hire at the employer's expense. Drug testing will be performed in the event of an accident or instance where equipment is wrecked or someone is injured in accordance with farm policy and insurance requirements. Random drug testing and criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure a safe housing and work environment for all workers.
