Job description

Job requires the operation of various tractors and farm equipment to till soil; work ground; prepare and maintain land; and plant, irrigate, fertilize, spray, cultivate, and harvest crops. Equipment that workers may be required to operate includes, but is not limited to, tractors with various implements, equipment that utilizes GPS and auto-guidance systems, sprayers, spreaders, skid steers, excavators, forklifts, mowers, air boats, and UTVs. Job requires walking sugar cane fields to fill gaps by hand made by mechanical planters and ensuring even distribution of cane seed; loading field wagons with sugarcane stalk segments; straightening predetermined number of sugarcane stalks into an open furrow at specific intervals/overlaps; following harvesters on foot through field picking up dropped cane; using back pack and hand held sprayers to eradicate weeds near shops and fields; participating in irrigation activities including laying pipe, walking length of irrigation pipe to puncture it at set intervals, setting up and operating irrigation equipment, clearing and maintaining irrigation ditches, operating well motors, draining excess water from fields, monitoring fields to check on and maintain adequate water supply to crops, shoveling drains and around outlets to remove trapped water, installing water drain outlets in fields; properly mixing chemicals; loading chemicals into sprayers; changing combine cutting heads; rouging fields and using hand tools to remove undesirable plant varieties, trash, and other objects from fields; performing general maintenance, repairs and/or clean-up of storage sheds, buildings, and all farm equipment; ensuring operational areas are organized and well maintained; using hand tools and equipment to repair, clean and maintain farm vehicles, machinery and specialized machinery and agricultural equipment; regularly servicing equipment; and operating chainsaws to clear brush, trees, and debris, if needed. Workers will also be required to handle live alligators; feed alligators daily; maintain alligator holding facilities; harvest alligator eggs; retrieve and return alligators from and to swamps and enclosures; incubate alligator eggs; drain and clean pens multiple times per week; assist in slaughtering and processing alligators by grading, measuring, removing hides from carcass, pressure washing hide, salting hide, stacking hides for curing, tagging and packing hides for shipping, and packing carcass meat.. There are few typical days and workers may be required to change duties and/or locations often and engage in various general functions. Daily duties may vary depending on crop, weather, and field conditions. The employer reserves the right to increase workers' pay or provide bonuses based on tenure, performance, or other factors that are solely based on the discretion of the employer.

Special Requirements

Job requires having or being able to obtain a drivers license within 30 days of hire. Basic English literacy and math skills are required. Job will require periods when workers may be exposed to varying weather conditions and extensive pushing, pulling, sitting, walking, stooping, bending, or repetitive movements. Random drug testing and criminal background checks may occur post-hire at the employers expense. These checks may be performed to ensure safe housing and work environments for all workers. Positive drug test results or refusal to comply with testing may result in termination of employment. If employer discovers a criminal conviction record or status as a registered sex offender that employer reasonably believes, consistent with current law, will impair the safety and living conditions of other workers, the employer may terminate the worker (foreign and/or domestic) with notification to OFLC and DHS in accordance with 20 CFR 655.122(n). Workers must be able to swim.
