Job description

Crops/Commodities:
horses.
Workers will be expected to perform basic facility and land maintenance in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks associated with building/facility care and land maintenance activities. Tasks include but are not limited to the following: mow, cut, and weed fields. Perform ditching, shoveling, hoeing, hauling, ground preparation, facility cleaning, trash/debris removal and other manual tasks. Bending, stooping, and kneeling required. Use hand tools including but not limited to hoes, shovels, shears, clippers, loppers, and saws. Lift, carry, and load/unload products or supplies. Use power equipment including but not limited to: tractors, planters, mowers, plows, sprayers, cultivators, power shears, chain saws, high lifts, fork lifts, skid loaders. Must operate land maintenance equipment safely, with or without direction. Assist with building/field maintenance and repair along with repairing fence lines. Instructions and general supervision will be provided by a designated lead worker or company supervisor. Exceptionally complex or non-routine activities will be closely supervised.
Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling products weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity, and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 10 to over 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honeybees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodation.

Employer reserves the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able but is unwilling to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product, or for any other lawful reason.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.

Workers must be willing to work second shift as needed, Monday through Saturday, during the contract period:

(Shift 1) 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
(Shift 2) 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

The work day is 8 hours per day Monday through Saturday, with an unpaid lunch break (8 hours/day). The worker may be requested, but not required, to work as much as 12 hours per day and/or on the worker's Sabbath, depending on weather and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold or drought may affect working hours. Employer will offer 48 hours/week, weather and crop conditions permitting. Worker will report to work at designated time and place as directed by employer each day.

Special Requirements

Safe handling concerns require that, to be qualified for this position, workers must have no less than one year of prior verifiable experience as stable assistant in a horse breeding operation. Employer will hire any worker with the requisite experience who demonstrates he/she can safely and competently perform the job of handling brood mares and young horses. Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. as stable assistant in a horse breeding operation. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs.
