Job description

Workers will perform various duties associated with the employer’s commercial greenhouse/nursery. This job order is being filed for a Greenhouse / Nursery worker SOC 45-2092.00.
Workers will work in various positions for the employer, and will perform various duties, all associated with growing the employer’s greenhouse/nursery crops. Workers will work under direct supervision with the growing, and care of the employers’ products. In addition, the workers will assist with shipping and maintenance of the company’s grounds and buildings.
Workers will work monitoring growing conditions such as humidity, moisture and temperature and follow cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards. They will also monitor the plants and the machines dispensing chemicals to ensure that the proper amount of nutrient applications, fertilizers and other supplements and chemicals to treat and prevent diseases, fungi, and pest. Anything that will prevent the healthy growth and harvest of the employer’s product. They will work to immediately discard and remove any product that does not meet their high-quality standards and prevent the spread of diseases. Workers will sanitize work areas, trays, tables, and any other surface that can cause contamination or spread diseases.
Workers will assist in the planting, cultivation and harvest of the employer grown greenhouse/nursery stock. Workers will prepare soil or planting media, stock supplies, mark trays with barcodes, fill trays, refill cover soil hopper, plant seeds by hand and/or machine, and plant plugs. Workers will transplant, grade and sort products according to size, maturity, and other factors as instructed by their supervisor. Workers will stack tables manually or with a stacking machine. They will move tables throughout the greenhouse, install pest control tape, and organize plants according to type and size. Workers will stock work areas with needed supplies such as trays and pallets. Workers will monitor crop progress and report back to their supervisor. Workers will maintain records about growing techniques, plant growth, greenhouse supplies, maintenance records, cleaning schedules, shipping records, and other information as required by their supervisor.
Workers will assist with shipping such as organizing supplies, and plants, assembling boxes, selecting plants, packing boxes and scanning, and moving to the correct area. Workers may load and unload trucks. Workers will need to communicate with others concerning the shipments.
Workers will assist in the routine maintenance and repairs of the employers’ building, facilities, worker housing, greenhouse houses, and storage areas. Workers may be required to repair pumps, drains, motors, fans, louvers, roofs, doors, drains, heating and air. Workers will perform basic maintenance and cleaning of the grounds including lawn care, and snow removal. Workers may be required to use hand tools, lawnmowers, weed eaters, and other tools to perform these duties.
Workers may be requested to move from one job to another with little to no notice. Some workers may be chosen to be working team leaders and assist new workers with learning the employer’s procedures.
Properly licensed and trained workers may be chose to drive employers vehicles on public and private roads. If a worker is chosen to drive, they must have and maintain a valid drivers license, and have a clean MVR. Workers will transport fellow workers to and from work, and to the grocery store each week.
Employee’s will need to comply with their GAP or other sanitation requirements. Any worker willfully ignoring sanitation requirements will be terminate
Special Requirements
All applicants must have at least 3 months experience working in a horticulture industry or related field. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience. Must be physically able to meet and perform all job specifications stated in job order. Must be able to work in the hot humid weather for extended periods of time, balance, reach and grasp while climbing on a step stool/ladder, sit/stand for an extended amount of time, and the ability to lifting products from floor properly. The employer does post-accident and reasonable suspicion drug testing. Workers may be subject to post accident drug testing at no cost to the employee.
