Job description

Manually prepare fields/soil to support crop production by removing stumps, laying irrigation pipes, laying plastic, mulch, planting, weeding, raking, fertilizing, cultivating, bailing, harvesting, spreading, and loading. Greenhouse work is done by planting seeds, watering, transplanting plants/cuttings, and labeling containers. Workers may be required to perform work on the farm that is incidental and in conjunction with general farming duties of the farm listed in the application, such as performing hand gathering of pine straw mulch, hand or machine bailing, loading, and spreading in beds or rows. Farm and field sanitation: Picking up trash, sweeping, mopping, removing trash, cleaning bathrooms. Operate or tend to tractors, harvesters, sprayers, and irrigation equipment. Operate or tend to pickup trucks or passenger vans over the road. The tasks in this job description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer. Workers should be able to work on their feet in bent positions for long periods. Work is in inclement weather conditions, including extremely hot, humid, cold, and rainy weather, prolonged walking over uneven ground in dusty or muddy conditions, bending, and reaching. Work specifications can change from time to time during the season due to crop, market conditions, and weather disaster periods. All tools, materials, and equipment will be provided at no cost to the employee. Employees may be requested to take random drug or alcohol tests at no cost to the worker. Workers will supply their work clothes. Must be at least 18 years of age. Employer commits to the following FLSP baseline commitments and requirements throughout the grant performance period: Universal protections and benefits will be applied universally to all agricultural employees, H-2A or otherwise, and at every work site within this operation. Participation in FLSP research and reporting, as requested by USDA or its cooperative research partner. Participation in Know Your Rights and Resources by allowing access to all hired workers, without the accompaniment of supervisors or management staff, for a minimum of 2-hour in-person training session, on-site in a conducive training environment, and pay workers for training time. Responsible recruitment by attesting to carry out responsible recruitment methods, including first, recruitment of U.S.-based workers and responsible foreign recruitment. Bonus on all piece rate work and bonus on hourly rates for skilled and experienced employees and sick leave available. Employees may support and acknowledge that pest control practices and weekly housing maintenance will be based on the Migrant and Seasonal Worker Protection Act Form WH5. Collaborative Working Groups of monthly meetings, at a minimum, will be promoted and supported to include at least 50% farmworker participation. The participating employees will be reimbursed for their time to commit to this collaborative working group. Employees may participate in external partnership training promoting worker education, ethical and economic responsibility, wellness screenings, episodic care for sickness and chronic health condition management, pesticide training, food and nutrition, and English classes. As the law permits, employers commit to neutrality, access, and voluntary recognition for employees joining or forming a union.

Special Requirements

Employer is a Drug-Free Workplace. Drug testing will be conducted upon an accident at the employer's expense. If the employee refuses or fails to test, immediate termination of employment will follow.
This type of work involves working conditions that require high levels of physical conditioning, including high levels of physical activity in cold or extremely hot conditions, under direct sunlight, and in adverse weather.
