Job description

Crops/Commodities:
nursery stock, flowers, bedding plants, shrubs.
Field mechanics will perform regular preventative service, maintenance and repairs on various types of engines to ensure efficiency of operation.
Job duties will include the regular servicing of nursery spray equipment, tractors and vehicles. Inspect vehicles and equipment for wear, damage, or specific problems that might affect performance.
Perform engine tune-ups, including diagnostics for repair or replacement, and adjust or replace items as necessary. Inspection and preventative service of fleet will regularly expose workers to moving mechanical parts.
Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision.
Employer-paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises, including housing, is prohibited and will be cause for termination.
Tobacco use strictly prohibited on company property except for specifically designated areas. No smoking, vaping or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, company vehicles, worker housing, or on company premises. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins and contamination from tobacco by-products. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found using any type of tobacco product in unauthorized areas.
Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable foot wear. Must wear proper protective footwear that is closed-toe in nature with a non-slip sole, such as work boots or trail-type shoes.
Work may be required during light rain, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures.
Persons seeking employment in this position must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.

Workers may not use or possess alcohol, drugs, cannabis (marihuana), or pornographic materials in the employer housing areas and transportation vehicles. Employees and/or employees' belongings may be subject to inspection by the employer. Inspections or searches for prohibited materials (including but not limited to illegal narcotics, illegal firearms, illegal paraphernalia drug used for drug use) that may be used may be conducted by an independent security service or by Company personnel. Inspections or searches for prohibited materials may be conducted on a regular basis at locations that include Company provided transportation, employee housing, and in the fields. Because even a routine search might result in the discovery of an employee's personal possessions, all employees are encouraged to refrain from bringing into the workplace, housing, or employer-provided transportation any item of personal property that they do not wish to reveal to the Company. Employees who refuse to cooperate during an inspection or search will not be forcibly detained or searched. They will be informed, however, that the Company will base any disciplinary decision on the information that is available, including their refusal to consent to the search as well as the information that gave rise to the reasonable suspicion that the employees were in possession of prohibited materials, if applicable, and that their failure or refusal to cooperate could deprive the Company of information that clear them of suspicion.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 3 months of prior experience working with gas or diesel engines. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written statement establishing relevant prior work experience. Workers must be able to perform all duties with accuracy and efficiency. Saturday work required, as needed. Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug/alcohol testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Workers that live in employer-provided housing must have or agree to receive a COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with company policy set forth in the Job Order.
