Job description

Nursery work will involve growing various nursery products in soilless media and in fields outdoors. Worker will be required to: remove insects from plants by hand; pull weeds from containers and fields by hand; plant, maintain and harvest finished stock; plant, move and maintain containers; cover and uncover greenhouses; acquire scion stock and prepare; propagate stock using asexual techniques such as side veneer grafting; evaluate products to assess quality and uniformity. Alternate work will include fieldwork, general field labor, brush cutting and farm maintenance activities, including maintenance, repair or painting of barns and other structures, greenhouses and fences, and any other equipment and tools used on the farm consistent with SOC 45-2092.00. Worker must be able to listen to, understand, and follow simple instructions, must be able to sit for extensive periods, walk for extensive periods, stoop frequently, carry out repetitive movements for extended periods, to crouch, bend, and sit on the ground, push and pull items, reach and lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Worker must be able to work outdoors in dusty and dirty conditions, in extremes of temperatures heat and cold, and in inclement weather. Worker should be in good health and physical condition. Three months prior experience is required. Saturday work is required. Workers may be requested to work more than the number of hours specified, but will not be required to work on their Sabbath or Federal holiday. Starting/quitting times may be shifted to earlier or later in the day depending on crop and weather conditions. All work must be performed carefully in a timely and proficient manner according to instructions to avoid injury to the worker or damage to products and equipment. Employer will furnish housing at no cost to workers who are unable to return to their permanent residence at the end of each day. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, any tools or necessary equipment to perform required tasks. Voluntary deduction may be made for health insurance benefits, if elected. Employer will comply with re-entry restrictions applicable to pesticides and other chemicals. Possession or use of drugs or alcohol is prohibited during the workday and is grounds for termination. In accordance with applicable laws and regulations, the employer reserves the right to terminate for cause, any worker found during the period of employment to have a criminal conviction record, any worker who is violent or has a physical altercation with co-workers, staff, customers, or the general public. Employer also retains the right to terminate workers for lawful job-related reasons. Job abandonment will be deemed to occur after five consecutive workdays of unexcused absences.
