Job description

Crops/Commodities:
nursery stock, flowers, bedding plants, shrubs.
Must operate equipment, hand tools, and construction tools safely, with or without direction. Work on farm property constructing and repairing greenhouses and other infrastructure. Placing concrete walls and sidewalks. Installing doors, steel frames, plastic coverings, shade cloth, caulking structures, irrigation systems and clean site. Installing heaters and fans, and electrical and propane systems. May operate hand and power tools of all types; air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists, surveying and measuring equipment, and a variety of other equipment and instruments. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the site of excavations, erect scaffolding and clean up rubble, debris and other waste materials.
Work is done in the field for long periods of time. Workers may assist in handling product weighing up to 60 pounds and lifting to a height of 5 feet. Workers must work on their feet in bent positions for long periods of time. Work requires repetitive movements and extensive walking.
Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and may be required during light rain, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 55 to 100 degrees F. Workers may be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations.
Allergies to ragweed, goldenrod, honey bees, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, or related chemicals may affect a worker's ability to perform the job.
Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a timely and proficient manner without close supervision. Employer will instruct workers in the safety and operation of equipment before use. Workers must operate equipment in a manner that protects operator, visitors, other workers, products, trees, crops and equipment. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in termination.
Must wear assigned personal protective equipment when required. Must report for work daily wearing work clothing and boots or other durable foot wear. Shorts, bathing suits or other casual clothing not permitted. Workers wearing clothing inappropriate for work will not be permitted to start work.

Employer-paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing is required upon reasonable suspicion of use. Workers may not report for work while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The possession or use of illegal drugs or alcohol on company premises, including housing, is prohibited and will be cause for termination.

Tobacco use strictly prohibited on company property except for specifically designated areas. No smoking, vaping or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, company vehicles, worker housing, or on company premises. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins and contamination from tobacco by-products. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found using any type of tobacco product in unauthorized areas.
Work may also include mechanized work using power equipment. Workers will be expected to be able to operate agricultural equipment with or without direction. Persons seeking employment as experienced Nursery Worker must be available for the entire period requested by the employer.

Workers may not use or possess alcohol, drugs, cannabis (marihuana), or pornographic materials in the employer housing areas and transportation vehicles. Employees and/or employees' belongings may be subject to inspection by the employer.

Special Requirements

This job requires a minimum of 3 months experience working in construction/building, handling both manual and mechanized tasks. Applicants must be able to furnish verbal or written
statement establishing relevant prior work experience.
Workers must be able to perform all tasks with accuracy and efficiency. Saturday work required. Must be able to lift/carry 60 lbs. Employer-paid post-hire drug and alcohol testing required upon reasonable suspicion of use.
