Job description

This ETA 790 job order is filed for 49-3041 Farm Equipment Mechanic and service technician. Workers will perform multiple duties associated with this SOC code.

Maintain, repair, and overhaul farm machinery and vehicles, such as tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems
• Dismantle defective machines for repair, using hand tools
• Record details of repairs made and parts used
• Reassemble machines and equipment following repair, testing operation and making adjustments, as necessary
• Clean and lubricate parts
• Test and replace electrical components and wiring, using test meters, soldering equipment, and hand tools
• Tune or overhaul engines
• Examine and listen to equipment, read inspection reports, and confer with customers to locate and diagnose malfunctions
• Repair or replace defective parts, using hand tools, milling and woodworking machines, lathes, welding equipment, grinders, or saws
• Drive trucks to haul tools and equipment for on-site repair of large machinery
• Fabricate new metal parts, using drill presses, engine lathes, and other machine tools
• Repair bent or torn sheet metal
• Install and repair agricultural irrigation, plumbing, and sprinkler systems

GENERAL CONDITIONS APPLICABLE TO ALL CROPS: Fieldwork begins at assigned time usually shortly after daylight. Work is performed during light rain and in high humidity and in temperatures ranging from 90 (+) degrees to 35 degrees F. Workers will work on their feet in bent, stooped, and crouched positions for long periods of time. Workers will make fast, simple, repeated movements of fingers, hands, and wrists. Workers must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs. Workers will use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, such as potted plants. These could/will weigh 75 lbs. Workers will supply their own work clothes. All the tasks in this Job Description constitute one (1) job; the employer may assign workers to different tasks on any day or to multiple tasks during the same day in the sole judgment of the employer.
The employer retains the right to discharge an obviously unqualified worker, malingerer or recalcitrant worker who is physically able to but does not demonstrate the willingness to perform the work necessary for the employer to grow a premium quality product.

Workers are expected to coordinate and cooperate with fellow workers to complete the job in the most efficient and high-quality matter as possible. Workers are expected to work independently and as part of a team. When working as a team, they must coordinate with other team members of the team to accomplish the tasks. Workers should be able to communicate in oral and written form. Workers should be able to work in a fast-moving environment, with the adaptability to change job and multi-task.

Full Crop Commitment: This is regular work, seven hours per day, Monday-Friday, and five hours on Saturday for the full remainder of the period of employment. The worker agrees to work for assigned employer(s) whenever work is available during the full remaining period of employment even though work may be slack at times. The worker understands that if the worker quits or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the period of employment, the worker will not receive the 3/4 guarantees and will not receive certain transportation reimbursements. Excessive tardiness and/or absences will not be tolerated and will result in termination.

Special Requirements

All applicants must have at least 12 months experience operating semi tractor trailers hauling agricultural/horticultural products. Applicants must have a valid CDL drivers license. Workers must have clean driving record and pass employer paid pre-employment drug test. Failing or refusing to take a drug test will prevent applicants from being hired. Applicants must be able to furnish affirmative job references from recent employers operating comparable operations establishing acceptable previous experience.
