Job description

Crops/Commodities:
Cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, winter squash, summer squash, sweet corn, cucumbers, melons, beans, pickling cucumbers, okra, eggplant, tomatillos and pumpkins.
Drive semi tractor-trailer truck to/from delivery or pickup destinations. Regularly climb into and out of trucks and trailers. Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order. Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure. Secure cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chains, binders, or covers. Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy, turn in logs, completed trip sheets, receipts, and signed invoices at the end of every trip. Maneuver trucks into and out of loading and unloading positions. Load-unload trailers and cargo. Handle equipment and cargo carefully to prevent damage. Each load will need to weigh before leaving the yard or any pickup location. If overweight contact dispatch immediately. Contact dispatch with any rejections, shortages and or overages of products at delivery locations. Drivers must receive pallets back in exchange at every drop location. If delivering to a food bank driver will need to place a new seal on truck between deliveries. Interact with roadway officials. Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection and paperwork on trucks and trailers on every run. Clean/maintain lights, windows, and mirrors, and vehicle exterior. Add engine oil and fuel as needed. Must be able to drive in rain, snow, and other hazardous conditions as needed. Drive in both on-road (paved) and off-road conditions. May drive other vehicle types. Use GPS and/or maps to navigate to destinations. Read/comprehend traffic signage and directions. Hours paid will be based off of the hours spent driving and working and will not include time sleeping or off duty for DOT regulated break.

Workers must operate all equipment properly and in a manner that protects operator, others, the employer's products and property. Failure to comply with safety requirements and operating instructions may result in disciplinary action up to and including immediate termination. Workers are expected to follow and obey all traffic laws. If worker receives a citation for breaking traffic laws, the worker is responsible for the citation.

Applicants must be able to furnish verifiable job reference(s) or comparable third party documentation from recent employer(s) establishing acceptable prior experience. Supervisor(s) will provide instructions and directions to workers. Workers must be able to comprehend and follow instructions and communicate effectively to supervisors. Unusual, complex or non-routine activities will be supervised. Workers expected to perform basic duties in a proficient manner without close supervision.

Employer may request, but not require, workers to work more than the stated daily hours and/or on a worker's Sabbath or federal holidays. Worker must report to work at designated time and place each day. Daily or weekly work schedule may vary due to weather, sunlight, temperature, crop conditions, and other factors. Employer will notify workers of any change to start time. Workers will have an unpaid lunch break.

TERMINATION. Prior to any termination for cause, employer evaluates workers' performance of required tasks and compliance with Work Rules and other employer policies. Employer may terminate a worker for cause if the worker's performance consistently and/or substantially fails to satisfy the employer's reasonable expectations (in accordance with the criteria set forth herein), or otherwise engages in serious or egregious misconduct that endangers health, safety, or property.

Special Requirements

3 months verifiable experience driving tractor trailers Agricultural truck drivers must be in possession of a valid drivers license that includes authorization to operate the type of truck used to transport farm commodity. All agricultural truck drivers are required to pass a drug and alcohol test prior to operating equipment that transports crops and must comply with the U.S. Department of Transportation random drug testing program requirements, safety requirements, and good agricultural practices. Must be 18 or older. Must pass physical exam, at the employers expense, and obtain required DOT paperwork before starting work. Commercial Driver's License is required. Workers will sit for extended periods of time and perform repetitive movements. Push, pull, reach, lift and carry 50 lbs. Work will be performed in inclement weather conditions. Drug testing is conducted post-offer at the employers expense and is not part of the interview process.
