Job description
RANCH HAND CATTLE DUTIES:
August-December: Primary calving season.
• Daily feeding, make sure all cows and calves eat and drink every day
• Calving activities include but are not limited to sorting cows and aiding with the delivery of births
• Graft calves onto available cows as appropriate
• Assist in maintaining birth dates
January - June:
• Daily feeding, make sure all cows and calves eat and drink every day
• Wean replacement heifers – feed daily
• Vaccinate the herd
• Assist in maintaining records for deworming and vaccinations
Assist in breeding and pregnancy testing of cows
• Tag and vaccinate calves daily
• Assist in maintaining breeding dates
Other General Farm/Ranch Job Duties:
1. Performing tasks, general farm duties as assigned by fixing fence, moving and baling hay, cutting trees, planting forage crops as directed, irrigating and applying fertilizer or chemicals, and plowing, cultivating, and harvesting plantings.
2. Providing general care to livestock by feeding, providing directed health care, and assisting with breeding, calving, and selling animals.
3. Performing regular and directed field maintenance by mowing using riding mowers or tractors and gasoline-powered trimmers or chain saws, clearing brush, and setting up, adjusting, repairing, and cleaning irrigation systems.
4. Safely operates light vehicles and farm machinery such as pick-up trucks, tractors, riding mowers, plows, mowers, and disc harrows.
5. Safely operates various types of farm equipment such as post augers, post drivers, portable power tools such as gasoline-operated power tools, sprayers, trimmers, and chain saws, electrically operated drills and saws, and gas or electrically operated welders
6. Applying chemicals used in farming and ranching properly and safely by following either written or verbal directions for mixing chemical compounds according to specifications, wearing prescribed protective clothing, masks, and rubber boots and gloves, applying the chemicals properly as directed on items designated for their use, disposing of residual chemical products as directed or storing them for future use, and recording the application of such chemical compounds.
7. Ensuring that farm machinery, equipment, and tools are operational by performing routine and preventative maintenance and cleaning farm machinery, equipment, and tools and making minor repairs within demonstrated capability
The employer provides all the equipment and tools used to perform duties.
Special Requirements
Work Rules 1. The Employer will reimburse the Worker for inbound travel, sustenance, & other DOL-allowable expenses only upon the Worker's completion of 50% of the contract. 2. Workers must perform their assigned tasks carefully & in accordance with the provisions of the work contract. Sloppy work will not be tolerated. 3. Workers must report at the assigned time and place each workday as directed by the Employer or representatives of the Employer. 4. Workers may not take unauthorized breaks from work. Should the Worker need a break, they will immediately contact the Employer or the Employer's representative. 5. Workers may not leave an assigned work area without the Employer or representative's permission. 6. Workers may not enter the Employer's premises without prior authorization. 7. Workers may not begin work before the scheduled starting time or continue working after the stopping time unless authorized to do so by the Employer or/Employer's representative.
