Job description

This position is in a cafeteria setting at the bustling James Madison University (JMU) college campus dining hall kitchens. The work environment is a full-service, industrial-grade kitchen equipped with modern appliances and tools typical of large-scale, cafeteria food service operations. Cook and prepare a variety of food according to production guidelines and standardized recipes in full kitchens. Cooks will safely utilize a variety of utensils and equipment to prepare, store, and cook food such as: prep stations, ovens, grills, refrigerators/freezers, blenders, general food prep utensils and machinery found in your typical full-service kitchen, and storage units. Arrange, garnish, portion, and serve food according to established guidelines. Properly store food by adhering to food safety policies and procedures. Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and utensils. Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure food safety. Compile and maintain records of food production and waste.

Special Requirements

Requires three months of cook experience. Must lift/carry 25 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. The actual work schedule for each day of the week is subject to change. An employee may work alternating days or shifts. Employer paid post-hire upon suspicion of use and post-accident drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers. Post-hire background check and employment eligibility (e-Verify) check required of foreign and domestic workers.

We will offer at least 40 hours in a typical workweek. Employer offers a $2.00-$4.00/hour shift differential and incentive at Harrisonburg worksite locations depending on time and day of shift. Any shift ending past 11:30pm receives an extra $2.00/hour for the whole shift. All hours worked between 5:00pm Friday and 2:00am Monday receive and additional $2.00/hour (during these hours only). Both shift differentials can be earned for a total of an additional $4.00/hour when conditions are met.

Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
