Job description
Operate and control grapple saw truck, excavator with grapple saw or wheeled hydraulic grapple saw crane. Responsibilities include inspecting equipment for safety prior to use and conducting basic maintenance as needed and checking for hydraulic and oil leaks. Tasks involve cutting, and limbing trees from within the tree (must be proficient in climbing trees) and familiar with the gear and safety protection standards of the industry. Tasks more often include cutting and limbing with a hydraulic crane. Tasks also include transporting logs and chip debris from job sites to drop-off areas; grading logs based on industry or company standards; and skidding, loading, unloading, or stacking logs. Operators may also lay mats to protect lawns as this logging is done in urban areas. If employee has CDL licensure, duties will also involve driving a truck with a capacity of at least 26,001 pounds Gross Vehicle Weight to transport logging equipment (tractor and lowboy.) Load/unload logs and chip material. Perform basic vehicle maintenance on truck and trailer.
Special Requirements
Requires six months of equipment operator experience. Must lift/carry 50 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Post-hire upon suspicion of use and post-accident drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers. Employer conducts a 90-day probationary period for new hires. Probationary period evaluation will be based on the following: employee should follow instructions and take direction efficiently, demonstrate ability to operate equipment efficiently and safely, show up to work on time, follow all safety requirements. Employees must not be late to the job site, create their own methods of work standards, do drugs on worksite, or at all if employee holds a valid CDL. Employee must be willing to be drug tested per company and DOT policy and follow all safety practices. Probationary period will end at 90 days given the satisfactory fulfillment of all previously stated requirements. Valid CDL preferred; CDL licensure not a requirement of all workers in the position. Employee must adhere to any federal/state regulations pertaining to the holding of CDL licensure. Employee will return to the worksite at the end of every workday. Employer may offer more than the stated work hours depending on weather, business needs, and other conditions. Extreme heat, cold, rain, or drought may affect exact working hours.
