Job description
From February 15 through June 1, work duties primarily involve the following: Attend to cattle and hogs in a feedlot environment, managing their feeding, health monitoring, and general care to prepare them during finishing before slaughter. Feed and water livestock and monitor food and water supplies. Examine cattle to detect injury, or disease, and to check rate of weight gain. Clean stalls and equipment using disinfectant solutions, brushes, shovels, water hoses. Mix feed, additives, and medicines in prescribed portions. Move cattle on farm as needed. Maintain growth, feeding, production, and cost records. Perform other, similar tasks as needed.
From June 2 thrugh December 14, work duties primarily involve the following: On farm, butcher/harvest of live cattle and hogs raised on farm. Assist with removal of the animal’s head, hide, and legs. Assist withcutting, skinning, and breaking down of the animal. Break down into consumer portions and prepare for display. Cut, trim, bone, tie, and grind meats. Perform all meat processing duties in a clean and sanitary manner. Process and prepare a variety of meats from all hoofed animals with knowledge of the carcass and how to properly break them down. Sharpen knives and maintain all equipment and tools in an orderly and sanitary manner. Must maintain all equipment, including knives, saws, grinders, and work area.
Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 lbs. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time without sitting.
