Job description

Workers will perform described job specifications as instructed by the Farm Manager or Crew Supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time and may include one or more of the following job specifications:

Shuttle Bus Driver: Inspect vehicle and safety equipment on bus before driving. Pick up workers at hotel/living quarters and transport workers to work site. Report any accidents/injuries. Keep vehicle clean, transfer workers from one worksite to another when necessary. Assist in timekeeping. Provide documents/licenses to federal agencies when requested. Transport workers back to housing at the end of the workday. Operating a company vehicle during the period of employment the driver must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the United States or foreign equivalent license to operate the company vehicle in accordance with license restrictions and vehicle classification applicable to that license.

Blueberry Harvesting: Each worker will be assigned a picking badge for identification and for clocking in and out during the workday. The worker will keep the picking badge throughout the workday. Each worker will be given 1-2 buckets. Workers will move down assigned rows picking all ripe berries, placing them in buckets. Once full, each bucket weighs approximately 6 lbs. When buckets are filled, the worker will immediately carry the bucket to the picking wagon. At the picking wagon, workers will dump each filled bucket into a lug where the worker will sort through the harvested berries and remove any berries that do not meet the company’s quality/food safety standards. Each lug will then be inspected by worker’s supervisor to see if worker is following the companies operating procedures and quality control requirements. The worker will receive credit for the bucket picked once the Supervisor has inspected and approved the lug. Any lugs that are not approved by the Supervisor will be returned to the worker to be re-graded. Harvester may receive disciplinary notice if quality continues to be an issue. At the end of the workday, workers will present their picking badge to the Supervisor to clock out and to get credit for the full amount of production that that worker picking during the day.

Receiving: check and weigh in fruit, quality control inspection at the time fruit is received.

Inspection table: workers stand the entire time and pick green, soft and any damaged fruit off of the inspections line.

Stackers: Pull the full boxes of berries off the conveyor and palletize. Prepare pallets for shipping - place corner boards on corners and strap pallets for shipping.

Quality Checker: Workers may be asked to check the quality by moving down a row checking quality to ensure that all blueberries were sufficiently removed. They will report quality issues to work supervisor for appropriate handling.

Agricultural Equipment Operator: Essential work activity involves loading and transporting highly perishable crops. Equipment operators will operate from field to field and farm to farm on the property. There are multiple loading stations on the property that serve as concentration points.

Special Requirements

Everglades Harvesting may conduct criminal background checks and/or drug/alcohol testing at the employer's expense on all new applicants post-employment. Failure to pass criminal background check and/or drug/alcohol screening is grounds for termination.
