Job description
We need seasonal employees to assist with our crop production season for oats, sorghum, rye, and millet. Employees will perform all assigned duties related to the planting, cultivation, irrigation, maintenance, harvesting, storage, and transportation of these crops. Duties include preparing fields and soil for planting; attaching farm implements such as plows, discs, sprayers, and harvesters to tractors; operating tractors, planters, sprayers, seed drills, manure spreaders, combines, irrigation equipment, farm trucks, and other agricultural machinery; engaging in planting, weeding, spraying, cultivating, fertilizing, irrigating, and harvesting activities; applying fertilizers and pesticides to control insects, weeds, fungus, and disease; installing, maintaining, repairing, and operating irrigation systems including pivot irrigation systems, ditches, pipes, pumps, and climate control systems; loading and unloading crops and materials manually or using conveyors, forklifts, transfer augers, hand trucks, wheelbarrows, carts, shovels, and other equipment; loading hoppers, containers, and conveyors to feed machines; guiding products on conveyors and removing diseased or damaged products; monitoring, adjusting, and operating machinery controls; observing equipment during operation to detect malfunctions; driving farm semi-trucks and other vehicles to transport crops, supplies, tools, and agricultural products; performing routine maintenance and repairs on farm equipment, irrigation systems, vehicles, buildings, fences, and other structures; cleaning work areas, equipment, and facilities; maintaining farm grounds and landscaping; preparing land and soil by digging, raking, screening, conditioning, and applying topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other soil amendments; planting, transplanting, pruning, spraying, fertilizing, watering, and maintaining plants, seedlings, shrubs, trees, fruits, vegetables, and other agricultural products as assigned; sowing grass seed, planting grass plugs, and handling sod; harvesting, bunching, wrapping, packing, labeling, and preparing products for storage or shipment; inspecting crops and plants for insects, disease, quality, and growth progress; identifying pests and weeds and determining appropriate pesticide and fertilizer applications; participating in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops; maintaining inventory of plants, materials, equipment, and products; keeping operational, production, yield, pesticide, and agricultural records; directing and monitoring seasonal workers during planting and harvesting activities; assisting customers with information regarding agricultural products; and selling and delivering agricultural products as required. Employees will perform all other duties related to the successful operation of the farm and crop production season as assigned by management. The employer, at its sole discretion, may grant pay increases based on factors such as performance, longevity, and/or experience. Employer may also, at its sole discretion, offer performance-based incentive bonuses that are not guaranteed and are determined by the employer.
Special Requirements
Employer will conduct post-hire drug testing at no cost to the employee to maintain a drug-free workplace. Employees who fail a drug test will be subject to termination. Employer will also conduct post-hire criminal background checks at no cost to the employee. Consistent with company hiring practices and workplace safety policies, individuals with felony or theft-related criminal convictions may be disqualified from employment to the extent permitted by law. The job requires exposure to extreme outdoor temperatures, extensive pushing and pulling, prolonged sitting and walking, frequent stooping and bending, and repetitive movements. Employees must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds and possess a valid regular driver's license.
