Job description
Onion Packing Shed Worker:
Workers will perform agricultural packing shed duties related to the handling, grading, packing, storage, and shipment of the employer’s onions.
This is a Skill Level I position with the employer requiring at least 2 months experience with similar ag equipment operation and duties listed below.
A valid driver’s license is required and workers may transport workers, equipment and crop.
Workers will receive, handle, and store onions in bulk bins or other approved storage containers; fill, stack, organize, and position bins within storage facilities; move bins between receiving, storage, grading, packing, and shipping areas; and assist with loading and unloading bins as part of normal agricultural operations.
Agricultural Equipment Operation:
Duties include operating, tending, and monitoring packing line equipment to ensure the proper flow of product; observing product quality throughout the packing process; operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment in support of agricultural packing, storage, and shipping operations; moving packed product, pallets, totes, bins, and packing materials throughout the packing facility. Drive farm non-CDL trucks a short distance carrying onions from storage to packing shed.
Special Requirements
The employer agrees that it will offer, advertise in its recruitment, and pay at least the Adverse Effect Wage Rate (AEWR), the prevailing hourly wage rate, the prevailing piece rate, the agreed-upon collective bargaining rate, or the Federal or State minimum wage rate, in effect at the time work is performed, whichever is highest minimum wage, or any agreed-upon collective bargaining rate, whichever is highest.
The employer may pay a higher hourly rate based on tenured performance, the Employer may, at its discretion, pay higher hourly rates for workers performing specialized duties or pay discretionary bonuses. These higher rates will be based on individual factors including demonstrated skill/knowledge after hire, demonstrated experience after hire, certifications, and performance, and will be offered to all qualified H-2A and corresponding U.S. workers on the same terms. Such payments do not change the primary job classification or required experience level.
