Job description

Perform comprehensive diagnostic testing, teardown, inspection, measurement, reconditioning, and reassembly of diesel engines and associated heavy-duty powertrains using manufacturer specifications, precision measuring tools, electronic diagnostic software, and industry-standard overhaul procedures. Rebuild and restore high-output diesel engines, including cylinder heads, engine blocks, crankshafts, camshafts, pistons, connecting rods, valve trains, turbochargers, high- pressure fuel systems, and emission after-treatment components. Service, repair, and calibrate transmissions, differentials, final drives, power-take-off units, hydraulic pumps, and related driveline components found on large agricultural machinery. Conduct post-repair performance verification, including load testing, timing adjustments, fuel delivery calibration, and system pressure testing to ensure reliable operation under continuous agricultural production demands. Maintain detailed repair records, parts usage logs, and technical documentation for each unit serviced. Strictly adhere to all safety protocols for handling fuels, lubricants, coolants, pressurized systems, and heavy components; utilize appropriate personal protective equipment at all times. Heavy Equipment Subject to Mechanical Work (Non-Exhaustive Description of Assets to Be Maintained): The mechanic will be responsible for the diesel engines and heavy-duty mechanical systems of an extensive, high-value agricultural equipment fleet located primarily at the Napoleon Agronomy Center. This includes, but is not limited to, the following major units and systems: Multiple high-capacity diesel-powered tender trucks and tractors, including 1990 GMC Tender Trucks, 1997 Peterbilt Tender Trucks, 1992 Kenworth Tender Liquid Fertilizer units, 2000 Freightliner Spray Trucks, 2004 Freightliner CL 120 units, 2006 Freightliner 16-Ton Tender Trucks, 2007 Freightliner units, 2009 VNL Volvo Tractors, 2011 Kenworth units, and a fleet of 2020-2022 International trucks, each equipped with heavy-duty diesel powerplants, multi-speed transmissions, and robust chassis systems designed for continuous bulk fertilizer, chemical, and seed transport under demanding field conditions. Agricultural tractors including John Deere 4440 and JD4840 models, both featuring high- horsepower diesel engines, complex hydraulic systems, and power-take-off assemblies critical to fertilizer blending, material handling, and field operations. 2016 Case SV300 Skidsteer units, heavy-duty compact loaders powered by diesel engines with sophisticated hydrostatic drive and hydraulic control systems. Modern high-capacity self-propelled application equipment, including a 2026 Hagie STS16 sprayer, multiple 2024 John Deere 600R fertilizer spreaders, multiple 2025 John Deere 616R sprayers, and multiple 2023-2024 John Deere 412R sprayers all powered by advanced diesel engines with complex electronic controls, hydrostatic or mechanical drivetrains, and precision hydraulic systems requiring specialized diagnostic and overhaul expertise. Large-capacity fertilizer blending and handling systems, including 10-Ton Fertilizer Blenders and Conveyors, Doyl 16-Ton Fatboy Blenders, Fertilizer Plant 16-Ton Vertical Blenders, associated 1640 Hopper Bins (multiple units), Amber Waves Stainless Steel Hopper Bins, Stor-King Hopper Bins (16124 and 1620 series), Underbin Conveyor systems, Brandt 13-90XL Augers (electric and hydraulic variants), 24 x 36 SS Conveyors, and Fertilizer Down Tubes — all requiring precise maintenance of motors, gearboxes, drive systems, and structural mechanical components.
